The Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation has launched a new grant, scholarship and training assistance program to financially support organizations or individuals who intend to educate the Jefferson County community in the fields of sustainable horticulture, environmental stewardship or other related fields.

Grants, Scholarships and Training Grants
The purpose of the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation (JCMGF) is to enhance and supplement the community educational efforts of the Washington State University Master Gardener Program and thereby to provide education and information on horticulture and environmental stewardship to all citizens of Jefferson County. JCMGF programs are available to all without discrimination.
The JCMGF intends to award grants, scholarships and training assistance to those organizations and individuals whose proposals are judged to be most compatible with the purposes of JCMGF.
GRANTS
Awards will be made based upon the following criteria, guidelines and any other factors JCMGF may determine.
- The purposes of the organization or the individual applicant must be compatible with the purposes of JCMGF.
- Policies and programs of the organization or individual applicant must be open to all without discrimination.
- Organization or individual applicant will provide references or letters of recommendation.
- Proposal will describe how the project will further sustainable horticulture and environmental stewardship in Jefferson County.
- Proposal will include a timeline of activities to be followed to accomplish the proposal and who will carry out these activities.
- Proposal will include an evaluation plan that measures progress and outcome of the proposal. Written reports will be due at mid point and at project completion.
- Proposal will include an estimate of how many in the Jefferson County community will benefit from the proposal.
- There are two application deadlines per year. Applications must be received by either April 1 or September 1. Awards will be announced May 10 or October 10 respectively.
- Funding period is for one year.
- Awards may range from $100 to $1,000 each.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship awards will be made based upon the following criteria, guidelines and any other factors JCMGF may determine.
- Applicant must be a resident of Jefferson County, Washington.
- Applicant must be accepted into a two- or four-year institution of higher education to study horticulture, environmental studies or any other related field. Attach a copy of the letter of acceptance.
- Applicant will attach an official high school transcript reflecting course work and grades.
- Two letters of reference are required; one letter from a teacher applicant has studied under in the last three years and one letter from a community resident. Both letters must be written by persons who have known applicant two years or longer and who are not related to applicant.
- Financial need may be considered.
- Scholarships are a one time monetary award of $1,000.
- There are two application deadlines per year. Applications must be received by either April 1 or September 1. Awards will be announced May 10 or October 10 respectively.

TRAINING ASSISTANCE
Training Assistance awards will be made based upon the following criteria, guidelines and any other factors as JCMGF may determine.
Criteria and Guidelines
- Applicant must be a resident of Jefferson County, Washington.
- Training will further sustainable horticulture and environmental stewardship in Jefferson County and fall within the JCMGF purpose statement.
- Training will benefit the community of Jefferson County.
- If funding is received, applicant will submit a written report of the training experience to the JCMGF Committee for Grants/Scholarships.
- Training assistance is a one time monetary award. Awards may range from under $100 to $1,000 each.
- There are two application deadlines per year. Applications must be received by either April 1 or September 1. Awards will be announced May 10 or October 10 respectively.
